5 part types · what each does and where to compare prices
- 01Serpentine beltDrives the alternator, power steering, and A/C from the crankshaft on most engines.
- 02Belt tensionerKeeps the right pressure on the drive belt. A worn one rattles or lets the belt slip.
- 03Idler pulleyGuides the drive belt around the engine. A rough or noisy bearing is the usual failure.
- 04Radiator hoseCarries coolant between the engine and the radiator. Upper and lower hoses are different parts.
- 05Heater hoseCarries coolant to and from the heater core.
Before you order
- Serpentine belt length depends on which accessories your vehicle has, such as A/C or a second alternator.
- Squeal on start-up usually means a worn belt or a weak tensioner.
