Fuel and air intake
5 part types · what each does and where to compare prices
- 01Fuel pumpPushes fuel from the tank to the engine. Weak pumps show up as hard starts or stalling under load.
- 02Fuel injectorSprays a measured amount of fuel into the engine. Injectors are matched to the engine's flow rate.
- 03Throttle bodyControls how much air the engine takes in. Electronic units may need a relearn after replacement.
- 04Mass air flow sensorMeasures the air entering the engine so the computer can meter fuel.
- 05TurbochargerUses exhaust flow to push more air into the engine. Find the cause of a failure, often oil supply, before fitting a new one.
Before you order
- Fuel pumps are often sold as a complete module with the sending unit. Compare what is included before comparing prices.
- Clean the throttle body and mass airflow sensor before replacing them; dirt causes many of the same symptoms.
